Galway Masters move one step away from four in-a-row
THE GALWAY Masters have been the premier over-40 side in the land for the past three years and the grip on their All-Ireland title showed no signs of loosening on Saturday afternoon as they carved out a narrow yet fully deserved win over Mayo at Hollymount GAA Club.
The counties met in the 2014 final and earlier in this year’s competition with the Tribesmen prevailing by a point each time. This time around, their margin was two but the Des Sheerin-managed team were full value for it at the end of a goalless battle that again went down to the wire.
Heavy underfoot conditions made football difficult at the home of the recently crowned Mayo Intermediate champions, but it didn’t hold either team back in an entertaining first quarter.
