Marquee man and more frank fahy
IT’S been a long journey from making a small marquee in a shed at his home in Tuam, almost 40 years ago, to providing a double decker marquee, the only one in Europe, for the retirement party for champion jockey AP McCoy. But Frank Fahy, and his family, have made that journey, and more, in the marquee business.
From his one-man operation in his back shed, the firm that Frank built now employs over 50, and what became Western Pleasure under his stewardship, has now evolved into two firms. Eventus is still based in Tuam and managed by his son John and daughter Eleanor while Wigwam Marquees on the East Coast is managed by his other son, Keith.
But apart from marquees and the major events and personalities that used his firm, Frank, who is now 83, has many other tales to tell about his time as a top flight hurler trainer and GAA official, as a European champion golfer, and in younger days as a promoter of dances in halls and of course marquees where it all started for him.
