Families sleep in cars while houses remain boarded up

FAMILIES in the Tuam area are being forced to live in sheds and cars while Council houses are left vacant and boarded up.
That’s according to local TD Colm Keaveney who is calling for urgent funding to refurbish vacant social housing units in the town.
Figures released by Galway County Council last month revealed that a total of 72 social housing units in the county are in need of refurbishment, 47 of which are in the Tuam municipal district area.
The Fianna Fail deputy said he has been inundated with families and individuals reporting what he has described as “disgraceful” housing issues to his office.
