Immediate need for drainage scheme to alleviate cahergal floods

HEAVY rain over the weekend has led to serious flooding in Barbersfort, Tuam amid calls for immediate drainage works to take place on the Grange River.
Over 20 acres of land are under water after the river burst its banks last Saturday evening. Livestock are marooned and crops have been destroyed by floodwater despite a commitment by the Office of Public Works to implement drainage works on the river two years ago.
