Rose Maria sets off from Shrule.

Rose maria takes to her bike to bring tiara back to tralee

MAKING her way back to Tralee, Maria Walsh has started the final leg of her epic reign as Rose of Tralee in the same striking fashion as the young Shrule woman claimed the tiara 12 months ago.
Hundreds of local people came out to cheer her off on the 242km Trek to Tralee event that will see her run and cycle her way to the Kingdom over the next three days. Several children ran alongside Maria as she crossed the border into Galway on her way to her first stop in Headford.
Making time for everyone who joined her on the first stage of the charity challenge, Maria said she was humbled and overwhelmed by the support in her home town.
“The whole idea of the trek is to empower young people to be proud of all that they are and hopefully some of them will join me along the way as I make my way to Tralee,” she said.
