Headfords effort to impress pride of place judges

COMMUNITY groups in Headford are putting the finishing touches to their submission for the All Ireland Pride of Place Awards after securing one of four nominations by Galway County Council.
A total of 40 groups in the town have contributed to a presentation which will be made to a panel of judges at St Fursa’s Hall tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon.
Co-ordinated by Headford Development Association, the bid will showcase the best practice, innovation and leadership that has led to the town’s vibrant sustainable community.
Jack McGrath, director of the association, said a huge amount of work had been put into the submission.
“There are so many groups doing wonderful work in the area and they’ve all responded to our call for submissions in great detail,” he said.
“We’re working to collate all the information so that the 20-minute presentation we give to the judging panel will leave them in no doubt of the pride this community has in the town and surrounding areas.
“Each of the 40 groups has been invited to attend the presentation, which will be followed by a short question and answer session before we bring the judges on a tour of some of the key attractions in the area.”
Among the groups involved in the bid include Moyne Villa Soccer Club, Solas Resource Centre, Headford Enterprise Hub, Headford Special Olympics, Sean Chairde, Headford Environmental Group and the town’s Men’s Shed project.
“There’s so much great work being done by so many diverse groups in the town we have had so much material to draw from,” said John, who is one of an eight member committee.
