Patrick meets his lifesaver

A YOUNG Tuam man who as a child received two bone marrow transplants has met his donor to thank her for the incredible gift she gave him 16 years ago.
Patrick Shaughnessy, from St Enda’s Avenue, was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder when he was born, which went on to claim the lives of his two older brothers Jonathan and Karl.
His two cousins, Paul and Glen Moggan, also died from CD40 ligand deficiency and the family was told Patrick’s only hope was a bone marrow transplant.
