Corrandulla shock at teachers death in road tragedy

THE community in Corrandulla is still trying to come to terms with the tragic death of young teacher Tracey Melia (24) from Tumnahulla who was hit by a car while walking in the early hours of Sunday morning only a short distance from her home near Aughclogeen.
The young woman, a secondary school teacher in Oughterard, was walking home from Peggy’s Bar at 12.30 am with her boyfriend John McDonough, also 24, when the accident occurred.
John was taken to University Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. He was discharged from hospital on Monday. The driver of the car was traumatised but uninjured in the incident.
Tracey is survived by her parents Hugh and Patricia Melia and her younger sister Caitriona and the whole community has rallied around the family to support them in their sad loss.
