Care for shane fund secures treatment at top uk hospital

OVER €60,000 of the Care for Shane Fund will be spent over the coming three months as Tuam man Shane Grogan begins a treatment programme in the UK.
Shane, who suffered a severe head injury in an assault in the town almost three years ago, travelled to the West Midlands last week by air ambulance from Ireland West Airport Knock.
He will spend the next 12 weeks receiving treatment at the acquired brain injury unit at Leamington Spa Hospital under the care of Derar Badwan, a consultant who is considered one of the UK’s top experts in brain injury rehabilitation.
Speaking to The Tuam Herald before he travelled to the UK this week, Shane’s father Joe said the hope was that further rehabilitation could lead to a small improvement in his son’s condition.
