Abbey maintain winning start in ihc

ABBEY hurlers maintained their good start to the Intermediate Hurling Championship with a hard-earned victory over a dogged Killimor outfit at Kenny Park, Athenry last Friday evening and now have two wins from two games.
A hard-fought game that had 21 scores and 20 wides pretty evenly distributed was always going to be close at the finish and so it proved as the sides were level on seven times over the hour.
Abbey were on 0-10 with Killimor at 1-7 entering the final quarter, but the south Galway club failed to score again.
The men in red and blue meanwhile added three points to their tally via Paul Flaherty (two frees) and Eoin Blade to surge clear for a narrow but crucial win that keeps them firmly on track in their Group A campaign.
Killimor, who had a surprise win over Ahascragh-Fohenagh in their opening match, will be disappointed at failing to build on that result.
