Council draws down thousands in bonds to tackle unfinished estates

GALWAY County Council is actively pursuing developers and financial institutions in their efforts to bring the county’s remaining unfinished estates up to acceptable safety standards.
The Council is adamant it has no reservations about drawing down bonds secured as part of planning and has claimed more than €700,000 in bonds to date. This money has been used to carry out significant work across nine unfinished estates around the county.
The number of unfinished estates in Co Galway has more than halved in the past few years – down from 88 to 40. Director of Services Catherine McConnell says funding has been secured that will hopefully allow a further three estates to be taken in charge in the future.
