Drivers still not heeding drunk driving message

GARDAI have issued a clear warning to all motorists at the start of the Christmas season — do not get behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol or drugs because the likelihood of getting caught is even higher now as a result of new regulations.

Drivers throughout Co Galway are being told to expect an unprecedented level of Garda activity this holiday season, with the likelihood of encountering a mandatory checkpoint stronger than ever.
Supt Pat Murray of the West Regional Traffic Corps told The Herald that already in 2014 there have been 434 arrests for drunk driving in Co Galway and 29 in November alone. During the year the Gardaí have set up 5,000 checkpoints.
