Annaghdown hurlers only one hour away from croke park

THESE are extremely busy times for the Annaghdown hurlers and at the Connacht GAA Centre last Saturday afternoon the club claimed the AIB Connacht Junior title and moved to within one hour of playing an All-Ireland final at Croke Park, thanks to a convincing win over Calry/St Joseph’s of Sligo.
Eleven teams took part in this year’s County Junior 1 Championship, which in Galway involves only Junior clubs, and Annaghdown saw off competition from An Spidéal, Sylane, Barna-Furbo, Mícheál Breathnachs, Menlo Emmets, Ballinasloe, Skehana, Salthill-Knocknacarra, Mountbellew-Moylough and Ballygar to represent the county in Connacht.
Their opponents were aiming to complete a three-in-a-row of provincial titles in the grade after Connacht final wins over Skehana and An Spidéal in previous years but they had few answers against a vastly superior team.
It was an impressive all-round display by Annaghdown.
