World champs alex and saoirse celebrate kickboxing gold in italy

CELEBRATIONS are continuing in two Tuam families following an impressive haul of medals at the Unified World Kickboxing Championships in Italy over the weekend.
Alex Fitzpatrick from Cortoonrue and Saoirse Joyce from Knocknacarra, whose father Ciaran hails from Park View Drive in Tuam, were among a group of six fighters from the Black Dragon Kickboxing Club in Galway to represent Ireland in the Unified World Championships in Tuscany.
Alex, 12, took gold in the low kick division and added a silver medal to his collection when he reached the final of – 52kg competition.
Saoirse, 17, claimed gold in the -60kg division, which was one of the last fights for the Galway contingent, all of whom were ringside when the judges gave their unanimous decision.
