Palace road to be reinstated following withdrawal of supreme court appeal

Discussions will get underway today regarding the reinstatement of the former Palace Road in Tuam.
This follows the withdrawal of a Supreme Court Appeal by supermarket owner Joe O'Toole against a decision by the High Court a few months ago.
In his order Justice Hedigan ruled that a number of the car parks to the rear of O'Toole's SuperValu store in the town centre was an unauthorised development. The controversial car parks have been closed since the beginning of the year. The judge had also instructed that the former Palace Road, which was removed, be reinstated.
The High Court Order was later appealed by Mr O'Toole but this has now been withdrawn. It's understood that agreement on the drawings and designs for the road's reinstatement will be finalised between Mr O'Toole's representatives and those of the Palace Road group over the coming days.
Works to reinstate the road will begin as soon as possible. It's thought that the reinstatement of the road will also allow for the reopening of the existing car parks which had also been closed as a result of the order.
Traders and businesspeople in town have been frustrated and reported a reduction in trade.
