Glenamaddy ploughing championships and harvest fair a tradition revived

THE inaugural championship event of the newly established Glenamaddy and District Ploughing Club was announced last Thursday night, and the event on Sunday, October 5 has been recognised by the County Ploughing Association as an official competitive event.
Welcoming all to the well-attended launch, in Glenamaddy Community Centre, club chairman Sean Ganley said the turnout was reflective of the support and encouragement that the Glenamaddy Ploughing Championships and Harvest Fair had received since first mooted.
This will be the first ploughing championship event to be held in Glenamaddy since 1953, but the organisers emphasise that the new club incorporates a much wider area than Glenamaddy, including Kilkerrin, Clonberne, Williamstown and Glinsk, and this is a collective effort.
