By Siobhán Holliman

BELCLARE’S Neasa Canavan is not only thrilled to have made her Ironman debut in the quaint Welsh village of Tenby on Sunday, but she is now among an elite circle of Irish athletes to have secured a place in the prestigious Ironman World Championships in Hawaii next year.
The popular Tuam physiotherapist is the second North Galway athlete to have qualified for the competition, with 65-year-old John Joe Higgins from Corofin heading to Hawaii next month having qualified in Ironman Wales last year. Neasa and John Joe will compete with 2,000 of the top performers in Ironman events around the world.
