Ballymoe scientist heads for the California coast as Fulbright scholar

A BALLYMOE scientist is winging his way to the west coast of America this month, having been awarded a prestigious scholarship to study at Berkley University in California.
Dr Gavin Collins, originally from Lisnageeragh in the north Galway village, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship that is granted to Irish citizens who wish to study, research, or teach in the US and for Americans to do the same in Ireland.
Gavin, who lectures in environmental microbiology and is European Research Council Fellow at NUI Galway, will spend four months in the US, where he will conduct research on microbial genomics in bioenergy production and enhanced oil recovery processes.
