Monivea’s magic lies deep in the woods

IF you go down to the woods today you will encounter a wonderful fusion of heritage and the great outdoors if Monivea is your forest of choice.
With summer well and truly here, the leafy surrounds of this wooded walkway are the perfect place to while away an afternoon exploring one of the more stunning natural amenities on our doorstep.
Whether it’s a leisurely walk or a more energetic cycle, clearly marked paths throughout the area offer a variety of routes through the grounds, which on further exploration reveal not one but two hidden treasures of local history.
Emerging from the shrubbery on the edges of the forest reveals the Mausoleum, which houses the remains of Robert Percy Ffrench and his daughter Kathleen. Robert was the last of the Ffrench family, and despite being the local landlord, he served as a diplomat, with the title of Secretary of the British Embassy in both Vienna and St Petersburg.
