Site secured for new Athenry Vocational School

THE sale, “subject to planning permission”, of about 19.5 acres of Teagasc lands at Athenry as a site for a new vocational school has been agreed, according to Tuam auctioneer Martin Tyrrell.
“This is great news for Athenry and I am delighted to have negotiated this deal after the lands were withdrawn from auction at the Raheen Woods Hotel, Athenry,” says Martin Tyrrell.  “There were a number of interested parties but the sale price has not been disclosed as it is a strictly private matter between the two parties. Negotiations had been in progress since the public auction. “The proposed highly important educational lands should prove to be a major boost for the historic town of Athenry and the region generally,” he added. One informed source familiar with the negotiations told The Tuam Herald that the price may be close to €400,000 but this figure has not been confirmed.
