Barnaderg Post Office 'snub' leads to claims of Government boycott

THE refusal of any government TDs or European election candidates to attend tonight’s (Wednesday) meeting on the future of Barnaderg Post Office has led to claims there has been an orchestrated boycott of the event.
The meeting convened by the Barnaderg Post Office Action Group has been called following the refusal of An Post to make a decision on the future of postal services in the village.
This is despite the conclusion of a community consultation process carried out by An Post last February, after which the community was promised a decision within ten days. This is the second public meeting on the issue and is aimed at compelling An Post to clarify their position with regard to the future of the post office and to outline their strategy for the rural post office network throughout the country.
The meeting is expected to attract large numbers. However, invitations to both Minister for Communications Pat Rabbitte and An Post CEO Donal Connell have been declined.
