Calls for conclusion to Browne Field saga

CONCERN that a proposed community garden and sports training area will not be delivered before the demise of Tuam Town Council have been expressed by those involved in the project.

The Browne’s Field plan, whereby a community garden and training area for the adjacent Tuam Stadium are being proposed, has been stalled since last year, despite agreement between the GAA and local residents.

At a recent meeting of the council, acting town manager Liam Gavin said the layout for the new area had to be put before the residents’ committee before the plan could be progressed.

Cllr Eamonn Kitt, who is a member of Tuam Stadium Committee, along with Cllrs Larry Bane and Tom Reilly, said the concern was that funding allocated by the town council had not yet been released.

'At a recent meeting of the stadium committee the view was expressed that this matter is going on too long without any progress,' he said.

'We need to bring it to a conclusion, find out how much it is going to cost and release the €5,000 we agreed to give the project when this was discussed several months ago.'
