Letters to the Editor – Thanks to Ability West supporters

Dear Editor, On behalf of Ability West â€â€ Éirim An Iarthair, I would like to acknowledge and thank the people of Galway City and County for their generosity and support during 2012. This was a particularly important year for Ability West as we celebrated our 50th Anniversary, a huge milestone for this organisation. Ability West held many anniversary events throughout 2012, some of which were fundraising events, and we sincerely thank everyone for supporting all of these events.[private] Ability West was Boston Scientific's Chosen Charity in 2012. This was indeed a wonderful opportunity for two Galway companies to join forces in supporting children and adults with intellectual disability to realise their dreams and ambitions and it cemented a lasting friendship with all employees in Boston Scientific, not least the voluntary committee in Boston Scientific who organised so many events throughout the year. Monies raised from the various 2012 events will enable us to continue to provide person centred services to the 521 children and adults with intellectual disability to whom we provide services and supports. As we all know, fundraising events are time consuming tasks and I would like to acknowledge the generosity and commitment from Galway people in helping Ability West to support children and adults with intellectual disability to live full and active lives, and be active participating members of their local communities. During these difficult financial times, it is increasingly important that we sustain high quality services for people with intellectual disability. The past year was extremely challenging and this was compounded by four previous years of funding cuts. Unfortunately, 2013 will see more of the same but we believe that with the help and support of the people of Galway and by all of us working together, we can continue providing high quality services to people with intellectual disability. It is impossible to thank everyone who has supported us but be assured that we deeply appreciate your ongoing support. Wishing you a very happy and prosperous New Year.
