Pres Tuam TYs keep it varied

IT'S BEEN been two weeks since the fashion show and we all miss the singing, dancing and modelling madness! We are still in the process of cleaning up the clothes and accessories, returning them to the shops and owners. Our hectic schedule has returned to normal classes where we have been busy with all our subjects, especially practising essay writing, yippee... [private] With the sun returning (which we see twice a year if we're lucky!) we have spent lots of time outside. On Tuesday morning we had a Zumba fitness class outside where we could soak up some glorious vitamin D while busting some moves. We also took a trip up to the Cathedral with our art teacher Ms Ryan. There we looked at some of the beautiful stained glass windows. We also had a proper browse outside of the church looking at the fine detail on the stone texture of the building, which we were extremely impressed by! All of the Transition Years, along with Mrs Mohan and Ms McGinty, paid a visit to the Greenpark Nursing Home, Tullinadaly Road, Tuam. We sang a variety of songs ranging from the famous Whitney Houston to the Dubliners. We also had some Irish dancing reels and even danced to the Siege of Ennis with Ms Mohan, which was great craic might I add! The residents and the staff of Greenpark Nursing Home were very appreciative of our performance and they even invited us back after the Easter holidays for more singing and dancing. Over the past few weeks, most of the Transition Years along with an impressive number of other students have been training for a 5km run. We all paid €2 and we were all very excited and nervous about the run! We put the running gear on and met up in the park during lunch. We walked, jogged and some of us crawled through the searing heat and eventually we all completed the 5km run. We were proud of each other for accomplishing it and taking part in it and were rewarded with medals and spot prizes. Our class came in second place for the most students who participated. Overall it was an amazing day with the perfect weather to go with it! While we wait anxiously for the results of the YSI competition, we are still working away on our YOUTHCAN project. We have been putting the finishing touches on the power point presentation that we will be showing 5th Year and Transition Year students. We have also been coming up with ideas and putting them together to create an information leaflet about YOUTHCAN and our partnership with Tuam Cancer Care. The eight Transition Year students involved in this group sold badges, pencil cases and mugs with the Daffodil Day theme to celebrate Daffodil Day on March 23. We raised €375 thanks to the generous contribution of the staff and students in the school. As the week came to an end we became giddy and hyper because the two weeks of complete and utter laziness and sleep-ins await us! Another term of school complete which felt shorter than the last, each term getting closer to the end of Transition Year (sad face). We said Bye Bye to the TY block, Slán to our Mammy Mrs Mannion and Au Revoir to our school bags until April 16! YEOW! â€â€ Aoife Geraghty [/private]
