Santa's Christmas Village to enthral children

HOMELESS people are set to benefit from a winter wonderland of sweet treats that will be unveiled at the Ard Rí House Hotel in Tuam this weekend. Santa's Christmas Village, which will be located in the hotel's foyer, is made entirely from confectionery and includes a train station with its very own train. [private] Aspects of Tuam town are reflected in the stunning model, including a Christmas tree in a Market Square. Local companies have sponsored premises in the village, with all money raised going to the Galway Simon Community. Galway Simon provides care and support for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in the West of Ireland. The charity provided over 32,000 meals and over 26,000 nights of accommodation throughout Galway this year alone. The village will be launched this Friday, December 2, and children of all ages are encouraged to visit. Meanwhile, Oranmore is also doing its bit for the Simon Community with the local City Limits entertainment centre hosting a special afternoon of fun with a special visit from Santa. Children will get to meet Santa, take advantage of the wonderful play areas and enjoy some food and drink, all while helping Galway Simon Community raise much-needed funds. Friends of Simon craft stands will also be there on the day with handmade festive gifts ideal for Christmas presents. Tickets for the event on Sunday, December 11, cost €19.95 for a family of four, which entitles them to one activity, food and drink, and are available from City Limits or the Simon shops on Sea Road and in Briarhill in the city.
