Voting time for Tuam online drama series

By Siobhán Holliman THE film crew behind Lucky Run, the online drama made in Tuam, are hoping it will be third time lucky for them as the competition heats up. The second episode of the fast-paced adventure was filmed around Tuam just over a week ago and it is up against two other shows which are contending for a place in the next round of RTÉ's website competition Storyland. There are just seven days for the public to cast their vote at www.storyland.ie.[private] The drama follows the adventures of a young man called Robbie who finds himself in a lot of trouble after a wild night on the town. He owes about €5,000 to a finger-chopping gangster after a drunken game of poker. Episode two picks up where the first episode left off with Robbie trying to raise funds to pay off his debts. However, Robbie's reputation for getting things sorted isn't the best and he ends up taking on a job he'd rather not meddle with. The first episode went before a public vote and producer Eamon de Staic from Shrule is delighted that it got enough public support to keep it in the competition. He is hoping that the public will continue showing their support for the local drama and cast their vote over the next few days. Directed by Achill native and former St Jarlath's College student Colm Cafferkey and produced by Eamon de Staic and Deirdre Gray, the series also features Ros na Rún's Fred McCloskey playing the role of the villain, Danger Kennedy. Indeed many of the technical crew also came from TG4's hit soap. 'We've been really lucky with the timing of this competition,' said Eamon, 'because it's the off-season for the Ros na Rún crew at the moment, so we've been able to get some great people on board to help us make this.' The show also features a host of local Tuam characters in cameo roles. 'It felt like the whole town was helping us make this,' said Colm Cafferkey, who was already familiar with the town from his days as a student at St Jarlath's College. 'We've been having a great time making it and we're thrilled at the buzz that is building locally about the series,' remarked Eamon. The first episode featured cameo appearances by Town Councillor Owen Ward, Mags Mulvey and Thomas Hynes and Eamon promises plenty more local faces to watch out for in the second episode. Behind the scenes, Tuam natives Orlaith Kelly and James Ryan are also hard at work making sure filming goes smoothly. 'If people keep voting for us, then we'll keep coming back to film in Tuam,' added Eamon. The second episode is online to vote for from today, March 23, and more can be seen at www.luckyrun.ie.[/private]
