Tom is ‘true gentleman' of country music

JOURNALIST, author and broadcaster Tom Gilmore, of The Tuam Herald and Galway Bay FM has been honoured for his outstanding contribution to country music. A presentation was made by Big Tom at the Salthill Hotel at a recent music weekend organised by fellow broadcaster and writer Michael Commins. Michael described Tom Gilmore as 'one of the quiet heroes who had always remained faithful and loyal to his country music roots'. 'Tom has been writing about country music for over 30 years and his weekly column in The Tuam Herald has always been most supportive of the scene,' Michael noted. 'He brings that same enthusiasm to his weekly country show on Galway Bay Radio. He has enormous respect among the performers and followers involved with this music and he has helped many artists along the way down through the years. 'The inscription on the award reads â€ËœTom Gilmore â€â€ Galway's true gentleman of country music,' and that's exactly what Tom is to all of us who know him. His knowledge of the scene is superb and there is such an immense regard and admiration for Tom out there. No one in Galway deserves this presentation more than Tom Gilmore.' Country legend Big Tom McBride said he was delighted to be associated with this special occasion. 'Tom and myself go back a long long way. He is one of the nicest people in the business and it is great to see that he is being honoured here tonight. He has always been a gentleman since the first time I got to know him. I think this has come as a big surprise to him.'
