Tri Lakes continues to thrive as triathlon popularity grows

TRIATHLON is a modern, exciting and endurance sport designed for all abilities and ages. Individual athletes complete a swimming segment, followed by a cycling and a running segment, with the clock running from the beginning of the swim through each transition to the end of the run.
There are over 90 clubs and more than 200 races on the Triathlon Ireland calendar this year and triathlon is one of the fastest growing sports in the country.
Joining a club is a guaranteed way to have some friendly faces at a race and a great way to find like-minded people to train and socialise with.
Tri Lakes is one such club. The popularity of the sport has exploded in recent years and the Tuam-based club is thriving, according to Siobhan Ryan, their PRO and acting secretary.
“The club was formed in 2009 when a couple of people interested in the sport grouped together. Eight years later, we have grown to approximately 100 adult members and also have 35 children in the junior club. Members come from all over, from Claremorris to Headford.”
