Water: Metered supplies are doing best

AS the heatwave continues, the demand on water is outstripping the supply in several areas around the country.
Demand at present is at peak levels, with a ten per cent increase or higher on water right across Galway City and County for normal levels at this time of year.
Groundwater springs and boreholes supplying Dunmore-Glenamaddy, Kilkerrin-Moylough, Ballygar, Mountbellew and Ballymoe are extremely low and are a cause for serious concern.

However, areas where water is metered have found their supplies are holding out well.
Irish Water is appealing to the public, particularly people living or working in the Tuam, Williamstown and Athenry areas, to conserve water as this prolonged dry spell has been predicted  by Met Éireann to continue.
