‘Drive-thru ashes’ will be given again this year in Glenamaddy

LAST year Glenamaddy made headlines world-wide with its drive through Lenten Ashes service.

A tradition is being born — next Wednesday February 14 is Ash Wednesday and once again people in a hurry to work will be able to get their ashes on the move.
The “Drive-thru Ashes” will be available at St Patrick’s Church in the town 8am to 9.30am.
It’s not just for commuters, but to facilitate people who are sick, advanced in years or with very young children, people on their way to hospital appointments and the like, says Fr Paddy Mooney PP.
Glenamaddy church lends itself to a drive through facility where you can drive in one gate, receive your ashes after answering the question “Do you wish to live a holy life? Turn away from sin and be faithful to the gospel.”
You don't have to leave your car and when finished you can drive out the other gate.
As Fr Paddy said last year, “Jesus himself left the synagogue and went out to meet his people”.
The usual Ash Wednesday mass will be celebrated in Williamstown at 10am, and in Glenamaddy at 7pm that evening.
