The late Teresa Quirke

Shock at sudden death of popular Tuam lady

THERE was shock and sadness throughout Tuam this week at news of the sudden death of a young woman from the town.

Teresa Quirke, 33, of Park View Drive, passed away in London on Sunday night, having attended the annual Galway Association dinner dance the previous night in Hammersmith.
A former member of staff at St Jarlath’s Credit Union, Teresa was due to start a new job in Galway in the New Year.
Tributes have been paid online with friends describing her as Tuam’s biggest smile, and a beautiful girl.
“She loved the banter and she was so popular throughout the town, through her wide circle of friends and her work in the credit union,” said one close friend.
“She loved all things Tuam and all things Galway, and when she laughed, you couldn’t help but laugh too.”
A statement issued by St Jarlath’s Credit Union CEO Mick Culkeen expressed his sympathies to the Quirke family.
“It is with a heavy heart that we confirm the untimely passing of our much loved friend and previously our colleague Teresa Quirke.
“Teresa was a vibrant, indomitable and courageous character and we remember her with great appreciation and gratitude for what she brought to our lives and work.
“May her loving and bright spirit rest in peace.”
Teresa is survived by her sisters Caroline, Carmel and Christina and brothers Gerry and Joseph.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
