Athenry’s new secondary school inches closer as contractor chosen

ATHENRY'S long awaited new secondary school building took a step closer to fruition this week with the announcement by Junior Minister Ciaran Cannon that a contractor for the project has been appointed.

Presentation College was granted planning permission for a new school building in April, seven years after a site near the Raheen Woods Hotel was acquired.
The long running campaign to secure the new facility was finally successful when the Department of Education agreed to sanction the new school as a stand-alone project late last year. 
Minister Cannon said the appointment of the contractor, who has not been identified, will allow for construction work to begin shortly.
