Major revamp of old Tuam library now going to tender

TENDERS are being sought for a major revamp of the old library building on Tuam's Shop Street.
The development has an estimated cost of €1.7 million and will lead to new offices for the Department of Social Protection for use as an Intreo centre.
The progress has been welcomed by Galway East TD Sean Canney who is eager to see the old building be brought back to use in the town centre after ten years of being closed.
“The tender for the refurbishment work consists of the refurbishment of the old library and the installation of a lift. The building will be used by the Department of Social Protection as an Intreo centre.
“The tender process will take three months to complete and I expect that the construction will commence later this year. Works are expected to take six months to complete,†concluded Deputy Canney.
