Frustration over backlog and delays in Fire Officer inspections

A DISTRICT Court Judge has called on the Co Council Fire Officer to explain why licensing applications have to be continually adjourned because the mandatory Fire Officer’s report is not available.
Before a pub, restaurant or public venue can be opened or transferred to new ownership the Fire Officer must inspect it. This goes as far as occasional dance licences and one-off events.
The inspections backlog is causing frustration for some judges who have to repeatedly adjourn such matters and Judge James Faughnan told Tuam Court he wants the Fire Officer to explain why this is happening as the delays were costing applicants time and money.
