St Patrick's Day deadline is looming for egg producers

POULTRY producers have an anxious wait as they face the loss of the commercially vital 'free range’ label as a St Patrick’s Day deadline looms.
Unless there is a major concession from the EU many businesses in the region face the unenviable task of having to re-label their produce and losing their 'free range’ status after March 17.
As highlighted in The Tuam Herald last week, the Bird Flu H5N8 virus is spreading among wild birds.
Poultry farmers have had to keep their flocks indoors since late December to stop wild birds contaminating domestic stocks.
