Incoming GAA president called to task by Gaelic Free to Air group

THE incoming President of the GAA is being called on to end the association’s pay-per-view broadcasting policy.
Tuam councillor Shaun Cunniffe, who is spokesperson for the Keep Gaelic Games Free to Air Committee, issued the call ahead of this weekend’s Congress which takes place in Croke Park.
Five candidates, including Ardrahan’s Frank Burke, are vying to succeed current President Aogan O Fearghail in the role, which will be determined by an election on Friday night.
Cllr Cunniffe accused Mr O Fearghaill of not fulfilling his role in accordance with the wishes of the vast majority of GAA supporters by sanctioning the renewal of a deal with Sky Sports, which had been initiated by his predecessor Liam O’Neill in 2014.
