Apprenticeship Task Force to tackle shortage in trades

WITH huge demand for skilled tradespeople and a severe shortage of young people, not alone for conventional trades such as carpentry, building and engineering, but also in IT, a task force is being set up to encourage more people into those careers by the Galway-Roscommon Education and Training Board (GRETB).
This area is leading the campaign to highlight the number of jobs that are there for people with technical and trade qualifications and “to change the perception of apprenticeships” according to board member and Tuam educationalist Pat Gilmore who suggested the setting up of the task force.
