No Sugarbeat 2017 musical festival for Tuam

DESPITE hopes and expectations it has been confirmed that there won't be a Sugarbeat music festival in Tuam for 2017.

Organisers of the previous successful live music weekends in Tuam say while staging a Sugarbeat this summer isn't possible they assure that it's not the end.

There was disappointment last year that the festival didn't take place following a successful and popular two-day event in 2015.

The duo behind Sugarbeat, Tuam's Rossi Sheridan and Shane Donnellan (aka DJ Slopey) say they have been working hard behind the scenes to explore staging Sugarbeat this summer but have decided it isn't possible.

We want to be in a position when we do organise the next Sugarbeat that we can make it bigger and better than any previous,” said the organisers.

They have been inundated since last year by music fans enquiring as to when the next Sugarbeat will be held and who the performers would be.

Sugarbeat was first held in 2014 and was a one-day outdoor live music festival in Tuam Stadium. The event proved so popular and the subsequent demand for tickets in 2015 expanded the festival into a two-day event which featured a range of local and Irish bands and singers, including The Stunning, Too Much for the Whiteman and former boyband Hometown, featuring Tuam's Brendan Murray.

With the news of The Saw Doctors returing to live concert tours, it had been speculated that they would headline on the Sugarbeat dates.

Rossi and Shane say they still hope to host Sugarbeat again in Tuam and that will continue to assess the possibility each year ahead.
