No talk of retirement for archbishop of tuam on his 20th anniversary

AS he celebrated 20 years as Archbishop of Tuam last week, Dr Michael Neary said “green shoots” are emerging again in the Church with five young men from the area studying for the priesthood and another seven expressing an interest at a recent meeting on vocations.
Archbishop Neary spoke of many highlights during his two decades while he also referred to how devastated he was regarding the child sex scandals. He says that if the Church had more mothers on boards and committees it might have been identified a lot earlier.
But despite the unsavoury side of some issues that he has had to deal with, Archbishop Neary says if he had to do it all over again he would follow the religious life.
