Galway Road Safety Officer urges parents to help save lives

GALWAY drivers are among the worst in the country for not putting seatbelts on child passengers in the front and back seats of cars.

The Road Safety Officer with Galway Co Council is appealing for parents to ensure their children are wearing their seatbelts as the latest statistics reveal that nearly 100 motorists in the city and county have penalty points for failing to have seatbelts on children sitting in the back of the car. A further 32 people in Galway have points for being stopped with a child in the front seat without a seatbelt.

The Council’s Road Safety Officer, Deirdre Caulfield, told The Tuam Herald that simply taking a few seconds to check seatbelts before pulling off might just save a life.
