Millinery award for Corofin designer

GALWAY milliner Caithriona King has another feather in her cap having won Best Established Milliner at a showcase of hat designers in Derry last week.

This was the fifth year of Hatwalk, a showcase of the best of Irish millinery while also supporting Brain Tumour Research as part of the charity’s Wear a Hat Day campaign.
Caithriona created a special piece for the awards which took inspiration from the colour palette of the organisations involved — pink, yellow, black and white.
The dramatic over-sized hat featured Caithriona’s signature fan details and wowed the audience on the night.
The hat will now be used by Brain Tumour Research as part of their promotional activity for the Wear a Hat Day campaign in Ireland and the UK.
“The award came completely as a surprise. There were some very impressive designs on show and I thoroughly enjoyed the event,” remarked a delighted Caithriona.
The well-known milliner who is known for her colourful and stand-out designs also showcased some of her collection on the night which she says was very well received.
“I even met people who were in Donegal and who follow me on social media and came along on the night to see my hats. It was really lovely.”
The award gives the North Galway milliner exposure throughout Ireland and the UK over the coming months.
Next month Caithriona's work will be featured in one of the country’s biggest fashion shows in Dublin, the Arc fashion show.
