Massed choirs will sing out in Dunmore

FIFTY years ago a choir was formed in Dunmore to celebrate the opening of the new parish church – and five decades on, it is still singing.
One of the graduates of that choir, Bernadette Greaney, now directs another great choir, PfizerPfonics in Cork. Down there she is known under her married name, Kiely, but in Dunmore she will always be Jimmy Greaney’s daughter.
The Dunmore Choir have sung near and far, in St Patrick’s Cathedral, New York, in France, and in Prague, to name just a few of their musical destinations.
Pfizerpfonics was established in September 2003 and has won many awards at festivals including Limerick and Feis Maitiu, Cork both Sacred and Mixed Voice competitions. The choir has twice been winners of the trophy for Irish Contemporary Music at the Cork International Choral Festival and winners of the National Mixed Voice Competition at the Cork International Choral Festival in 2014 and 2016.
On Saturday March 25 the two choirs will combine for a concert in the Church of St Nicholas, Dunmore, for a programme that will be a delight for lovers of choral music.
