Deirdre is weaving a wonderful life

PATIENCE and being a lover of your own company certainly seem to be prerequisites for a life at the loom.
Few of us cast a thought as to who or what made the scarf that’s snuggled around our necks keeping us cosy on crisp winter mornings. While some of us might have been fortunate to have mastered the art of clicking needles to produce a homemade chunky colourful knit, most of us have a colourful collection in drawers and closets that originated in factories around the world made from a mix and match of materials.
Not so for the wonderfully handwoven scarves and blankets that emerge from the rooftop studio of designer Deirdre Duffy who I feel weaves a little bit of herself into each individual piece in her light-filled studio in Claremorris.
