Peter is still busy behind the counter at 84

HE is almost 65 years behind the counter in his drapery shop, and 84-year-old Mountbellew businessman Peter Briggs shows no signs of slowing down.
Operating two businesses, Peter is up at 7 am to help get breakfasts ready for residents, including students from the nearby agricultural college, who stay at the family-operated St Anne’s Guest House.
Then he is off on a brisk walk down the town shortly after 9 am to open his Briggs Men’s and Ladies’ Family Drapery where he has been behind the counter since 1952.
“I get back to the house usually at 7 o’clock in the evening and then I have all the accounts figures from the businesses for the day to do up,” says Peter.
