Coeliacs, stick to diet and stay healthy!

THE most important way that any person with coeliac disease can do to manage their condition is to obey the dietary rules.
This was the message to a crowded event for coeliacs at O’Toole’s SuperValu, Tuam last week.
Dietician Siobhan Spelman said that the first thing a person with a positive diagnosis of coeliac disease should do is to join the Irish Coeliac Society.
They will then get the society’s guide to foods that are safe for coeliacs to eat.
Coeliac disease is an autoimmune condition in which the body cannot tolerate gluten, which is found mainly in wheat and barley.
