Noel Treacy - retired, but busy as ever

TWO phones kept ringing intermittently, possibly three calls every five minutes, during a three-hour interview with former Minister Noel Treacy who spoke frankly about how cancer caused his “unexpected exit” from being a public representative in 2011 when he was working an average 120 hours per week.
Judging by the number of phone calls he still gets from former constituents or GAA or voluntary organisations, or the way his diary is filled with appointments, he is still not retired.
However life is different now from 2011 when, due to the severity of major surgery for prostate cancer, he had to quit politics.
The removal of three tumours and 35 sessions of radio therapy had been delayed for six months. Then, only four days into his treatment, a General Election was called, prompting Noel to ask his consultant “Can I run?”
