Wander your way through galways whiskey trail

THERE’S nothing new in spending an afternoon or evening wandering from one pub to another along the streets of Galway. However, most of the meanderings usually involve putting away a few pints or bottles and the suggestion of sipping your way through a glass of whiskey at each stop may sound as if you’ve already had more than one too many.
However, whiskey, especially Irish whiskey, is rapidly becoming a trendy tipple. Small distilleries similar to the craft brewery boom are popping up around the country and whiskey is no longer viewed as the old man’s drink or just a soothing solution to a cold or toothache.
Galway is used to leading the way in terms of food and drink-related tourism and now a new initiative celebrates the city’s whiskey history.
The Galway Whiskey Trail was launched with plenty of spectacle thanks to a Macnas outdoor pageant in which like the Pied Piper, a Hare and Fox on stilts led the crowd of somewhat bewildered tourists and punters to the Spanish Arch for their specially written piece Uisce Beatha.
