Irelands computer museum is in galway

THE juggernaut of evolution in information and communication technology over the past four decades is charted in a unique collection of computer artefacts housed in Galway, home to Ireland’s Computer and Communications Museum.
While the country’s history, art and science museums are accomodated in Dublin, Galway has laid claim to being Ireland’s first digital city — because it opened the door for the many blue chip companies that have made Ireland their European base.
The computer museum appeals to both techies and historians alike, with an extensive catalogue that includes Pacman, Atari consoles and the first models of both transitor radios and mobile phones.
Based at NUI Galway’s Insight Centre in the IDA Park in Dangan, the museum is modest, almost innocuous as you walk through what is essentially an office block to find it.
