U-20 footballers defeat Roscommon

ROSCOMMON have inflicted painful defeats on Galway at various levels in recent times and though Padraic Joyce’s first championship match as U-20 manager was a largely comfortable one in Kiltoom last Wednesday, the performance that delivered it fell short of the standards his side reached in the recent John Kerins Cup.
A win is a win, nonetheless, and given that one third of Galway’s 24-man panel had first-hand experience of a Roscommon upset at the grade just 12 months earlier, their primary objective was realised and a Connacht final meeting with Mayo set in stone.
Rory Cunningham top scored for Galway with four points from play and Matthew Tierney kicked three, including a couple of sweet strikes from distance off the deck.
