Galway ready to rise again

THE memories of August 19, listening on as “Dreams” by the Cranberries blared out all around Croke Park as Limerick celebrated a first All-Ireland title in 45-years are still vivid in the mind but this weekend offers the first opportunity for the Galway hurlers and supporters to realise dreams of their own as Championship 2019 finally makes its’ bow.
Last year’s campaign was one that will live long in the memory, despite ending up in disappointment for Galway, with three stunning All-Ireland semi-finals, and the relentless first season of the provincial round-robin making it a summer to remember.
Despite a few teething problems in relation to player burnout, highlighted most notably by Wexford manager Davy Fitzgerald, the restructured championship format was a success and quite rightly returns this year.
